Review:

Tonight Matt played an exciting solo set at THE MAIN, a restaurant/bar in Vancouver, as part of Radio Bandcouver's live Sunday showcase! He played to a small but intimate crowd in this beautiful setting. His special guest was Leonora Record who did an entertaining and unique spoken word set accompanied by Matt on piano, and a violent wine-glass-smashing piece! Matt's first set kicked off with a solid performance of an old favourite TAKE ME FAR AWAY, and moved in through the rare FLOORPLAN, along with favourites like WILLOW, JULY and THE COUNTRY SONG. He finished the set with a great performance of Cat Stevens' SITTING.

The second set held many surprises - Matt opened with a brand new piece - a dark, brooding song about the gay male prostitution business entitled BOY OBSERVATIONS - this was the debut performance! He picked up the pace with RED HOT MAMA, and then did an incredible rendition of OH GIRL on the suitcase piano. Another Cat Stevens tune by request followed - THE WIND. Rose Record (Leonora's daughter) joined Matt on AS I GO ALONG, and a cover of Sarah McLachlan's ANGEL, with lead vocals by Rose. Matt finished off the set with favourites, including a solo piano TROUBLED, one that hasn't been done in awhile, and NEED TO BREATHE sad and slow for the last piece. A wonderful evening of music and poetry in Vancouver.
