Review:
Tonight's show at numbers was great - a very long
show at around 2.5 hours Matt and his guests ploughed through some exciting
entertainment! Matt's solo stuff was better than ever tonight including an
amazing performance of a very old song THE LONG TALK which showcased his playing
a singing abilities so well! He also did a rousing version of INSECURE/IMMATURE,
a dark and brooding BOY OBSERVATIONS, and the Cat Steven's classic SITTING,
which he hasn't performed in a very long time!
Jenn Boyd was excellent as usual tonight joining matt onstage
for many numbers including her version of Martha Wainright's BLOODY
MOTHERFUCKING ASSHOLE, and her own favourites WALKING WOUNDED and STILL
BREATHING. An imprompteau performance of Tori Amos' CORNFLAKE GIRL satiated some
over-zealous fans!
Christopher Doucet performed some beautiful songs on the
piano including MARY by the Scissor Sisters, and ICE by Sarah McLachlan. Leonora
Grande did some amazing spoken word art to matt's piano music, including a peppy
new piece WHAT YOUR BOYFRIEND DOESN'T DO.
Set two had a bit of a theme to it - Helen Rose performed a
beatles tribute with matt - three amazing classics WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY
FRIENDS, THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD (which helen's gorgeous voice just soared
through!), and the highlight HELP! Tom Kosaka did a three song Elton John
tribute with Matt which included ROCKETMAN, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD (with
beautiful harmonies!) and HONKY CAT!
A wonderful night, which Matt n' Jenn closed down in the
encore with a beautiful performance of THE COUNTRY SONG.
