Review:

A nice ring in to the new year was matt & brad's 8th show at the dufferin. Tonight was a little different because the acoustic show went ROCK with brad on electric guitar - this was a circumstantial choice, not an artistic one, and it affected the show in ways both good and bad. For instance, some songs sounded new, fresh, and incredible with the electric guitar (particularly the dark, loud, intense I FOUND GOD, the punky poppy OH GIRL, and the experimental SNAKE EYES). However, it also couldn't compare to the crisp acoustic quality on songs like A SORTA FAIRYTALE, BELIEVE, and NEVER SAY NEVER. Despite the difficulties (and the fact that they were battling difficult hangovers from the night before) Matt & Brad performed very well and entertained the crowd. Gemma Aird was a guest on two songs which was quite the treat (including billy joel's PIANO MAN), and Rose Record was also a guest taking lead vocals on sarah mclachlan's ANGEL.
