Rock/pop pianist/singer/songwriter Matthew Presidente has been a
part of the music scene in Vancouver for over 10 years. Now 31, the
young musician has independently recorded and released 4 full length
albums, and performed numerous stages around the lower mainland
including headlining festival shows as well as several regular
resident appearances at major Vancouver nightclubs.
Composing and playing piano since 10, Matthew has been inspired by
the music he grew up to; Elton John, The Beatles, Cat Stevens and
Leonard Cohen. This early rock/folk sound merged with his love for
modern pop and metal to create a very unique style in a
pianist/performer. Onstage he is incredibly versatile and engaging.
In the early years he would perform solo at the piano – a setup
which he reverts to every so often. This is Matthew in his comfort
zone, rockin’ an acoustic piano with a passion and intensity rarely
seen in this style of music. More recently he has developed a small
band where he controls many keyboards synths and loops, lending to a
fuller sound made to get the crowd on their feet.
Since his debut, Matthew has been showcasing his original material
and building his fanbase at notable music venues such as The
Dufferin Hotel, The Railway Club, The Media Club, The Buffalo club,
Café deux Soliels, Central Bistro, Jlounge, and many more. He has
been enthusiastically recognized at numerous appearances at
colleges, festivals and these local clubs. Matthew has also
participated in youth and benefit concerts, organized and performed
in Delta's Take it in the Ear arena concert three years in a row,
and been the featured musician at the Miss Teen Canada Global
Pageant. A proud accomplishment as a queer-themed musician, Matthew
has performed at the Vancouver pride festival since 2005, including
several mainstage headlining slots. Last year he was a featured
performer at the 2011 North American Outgames and played a set at
the plaza of nations amongst headliners Ace of Bass and Dragonette.
He has hosted his own shows (including a 3 year weekly run at the
legendary Numbers Cabaret where he showcased fresh talent), and
performed with the likes of Canadian favorites (Carole Pope, Jeffery
Straker, Vicky Sjohall, Brad Pedwell, Sam Masich) as well as some of
music’s legends (Jane Sibbery, Mr. big and the late Long-John Baldry).
Most
recently, Matthew unveiled an exciting new project – “This City’s
Colors” - which celebrates his city of Vancouver in all of it’s
splendor. Inspired by the growing homeless population, the debate
over the Vancouver Olympics and violence in the gay community,
Matthew paints a picture of life in one of the most stunning cities
in the world during a strange and difficult time of change. The
eclectic rock album takes a back to basics approach with vintage
synths, distorted idiosyncratic guitar solos and glorious harmonies.
It reflects Matthew’s feeling towards his home of Vancouver: diverse
and beautiful; elements of rage and fear balanced with hope and
pride.
Four incredible music videos by local filmmakers (Stephen Emery,
Brendan James Boyd) accompany the project. The most recent a fresh,
steamy, queer themed short to his dance epic 4U2BM9. These videos
along with all of Matthew's recordings are available on his website.
He is available for any type of performance ranging from intimate or
formal singer/songwriter settings to bigger dance and rock stages
that require a fuller sound. Please contact directly for any
inquires.
